that doesn't make sense. They may have put him on empiric therapy for a prostate infection, but not treatment for an empiric prostate infection.

"derived from experiment and observation." In this case, it would be synonymous with "apparent" (i.e., not actually proven by lab tests but clinically apparently). Does that make sense?
