First thing, I'd look at a map of the city you're typing

Jay or Jaye Street. But, if it is J Street, that's how I'd type it: J Street. But, I'd probably type this:

50th and J Streets

unless 50th is not a street but an avenue or a road or some other such thing. That's where mapquest would come in handy.
