As this has persisted refractory to a full range of nonoperative treatment, with no other etiology of his chronic pain evident, a diagnosis of possible femoral component and stem thigh pain from "stress transmission" has been considered. As treatment for this, bone grafting to this area was discussed with the patient, and his pain has been refractory to this point, he became desirous to have this accomplished.
