Dictionaries agree that genus names should be capitalized when referring
to a particular species (Staphylococcus aureus) and lower case when
not identifying a particular species, like "salmonella and shigella"
or "staphylococcus species." However a Google search shows
"Staphylococcus species" capitalized on 95 hits out of 100,
"Salmonella and Shigella" capitalized 85 hits out of 100.
